Today, ESPN the Magazine released their 3rd annual Body Issue, which features, well, buckit neckit pictures of some of your favorite athletes. Tastefully done, of course.

This year's issue features pictures of Hope Solo - Goalkeeper for the U.S. national team, Natasha Hastings - U.S. Track & Field sprinter (yes'lawd!), BlakeGriffinifyoulikethatsortathing, and Sylvia Fowles - WNBA player, just to name a few.

HGTV Swag

So, my big brother is a jack of all trades. I honestly don't understand how he knows so much, but I sholl admire it. For the past week or so, I've been his master apprentice on a remodeling job in my mom's house. She wanted her bathroom redone and this is how it all went down...

After everything was stripped from the old bathroom.

6 days, 2139123698 hours (it seemed), 20 trips to the store, 12 square meals later (plus some much needed company/assistance from others) we were able to turn it into this:

 

I don't like the green paint that my mom chose, but other than that I love it! I'm super glad that I got the chance to help out during this project. Painting, laying floor and wall tile, installing toilets/sinks and everything. My knowledge (and skills) of DIY projects has increased exponentially, g!

Dear Karla...

I love fashion blogs! The Sartorialist, Brooklyn Circus (the best clothing brand ever), the fellas over at the Madbury Club, That Good Good and Caprece Knows Fresh are a few of my personal favorites. But trust me, there are tons more. I ain'eem know I liked fashion like that, until I stumbled across a blog one day and was mesmerized by all the different colors, prints, fabrics, and fits, g. Plus the fashion in North Carolina is pretty minimalist. Everybody rocks Polo, Sperry, NorthFace, and Jordan uniforms everyday, b. In the most conservative way possible. And then brag about it like everyone doesn't have the same things in their closet. So, it's nice to see some alternatives.

But anywho.... I wanted to take a moment to give some shine to one of my favorite female fashion bloggers: Karla. I've been visiting her site, Karla's Closet, for quite sometime now and thought that I should put my fellow brethren up on game. Why, you ask? She bad. Peep game:

Watch Out For the Big Girls

I don't know how I managed to miss this. Vogue Italia's June Issue featured four plus-sized models in a full editorial spread. Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine and Robyn Lawley (featured on cover) and Marquita Pring (inside) repped for the "big" girls, big being relative of course, 'cause you know the fashion industry's definition of plus-sized is simply the size of an average woman American woman. I ran my first 5k!

As of Saturday, I can go ahead and mark "run a 5k" off my bucket list! I feel so accomplished now. Plus I haven't competed in anything for over 4 years now, so I finally was able to scratch that itch.

I ran as a sponsor with my girlfriend's little sister, who won a trophy for coming in 1st Place in her age group! I ain'eem gon' lie, tryin' to keep up with her was like chasing someone on a bike, g. Her pace never slowed ONCE, in spite of all those hills we had to run up and down.

I ran a time of 24:09, coming in 39 out of 395 people and 5th in the 19-29 age group! The guy who came in 1st overall was an  ex US Track & Field athlete (and he was 50 years old!). But people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and athletic backgrounds were out there having fun and participating.  It was MAD fun and I encourage all of you to give it a try one day!

'Round my hometown _Adele

So, I'm from a VERY small town. It's surrounded by other towns of similar size--that whole "everybody knows everybody" deal. Well, aside from there being nothing to do, this general area where my family lives is actually rich with interesting history that I had no clue about.

Today, my mom, grandma and I went to the Badin City Museum, which was full of historical artifacts dating back to the beginning of the area's settlement in the early 1900s by the French. As not to sound like a history teacher, I just want y'all to check out a few of the dope things I saw today:

Back in the day the town was split into black and white sides and this is the school for the black students. They had a dedication ceremony in honor of its opening and a stage was built on the front lawn where musical performances were held. In the other pictures, everyone was SO well dressed back then in three piece suits with overcoats, nothing less!

This is what the cheerleader's wore back in the1920s! The quality, 90 years later! I couldn't help but gawk over how ill it was, and how people make something like this today with less quality and charge $200+ for it.

We then toured a home that was built in that time period and got restored. This is the stove they cooked on.

This is, believe it or not, a refrigerator! Jawn looks like a dresser brah! The cabinet on the left was completely open with racks for ice that they purchased to keep the whole thing cold.

So much for mattress and box springs! Imagine sleeping on this nonsense.

There were several cool pictures of old things in town like a full fledged opera house and a huge movie theater from way back in the day.
Cool stuff.

"Tell me have you seen her" _The Chi-lites

Next to Solange, I ride for Serena Williams. I would take a charge for her, do a bid, and not even be mad when I got out. I have never seen this ultra-super dainty side of her before. People throw a lot of shade at her because she's "too muscular" or because her hair is a mess, but this picture shows no indication of either in my opinion.

Family Vacation--Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas

I'm sorry if it has been sounding like I've been bragging about our trip on Twitter. Very small things excite me, like when stuff is on sale for $0.99 instead of rounded to an even dollar, or getting to a stoplight right as it is turning green, so you have to excuse me because I’m still based about this trip and it comes out in the form of constant recollection.

Annnn-ywho, I took hundreds of photos while we were on the cruise and I posted about 50 of my favorite ones on Flickr. Nassau, Bahamas was so beautiful. And the amenities on the cruise ship were great--free room service, food around the clock, swimming pools, workout areas, free shows, tax free souvenirs and jewelry, off-boat excursions, etc. It was my very first cruise and it definitely won't be my last!

...but if I had one, these two pictures would be on it for 2 reasons:

1. Immediately, when I saw this picture I zoned in on the button's on Kanye's jacket cuff. They are NOT just for decoration! They can actually be used. And of course 'Ye wore his open for that very reason. Quick note to the ladies: if you are EVER out and see a man whose suit jacket sleeves can be unbuttoned, tell 'em to buy you a drink, because he can afford the bottle. Don't believe me? Next time you go to a formal event, sneak a peak at some of the guy's suits and see how many you can find like this and tell me how it goes. One day, that'll be me. One day.


2. Keri changes her style like I change shoes. And #imo, she can do that. I like this picture because of her vintage looking Gucci sweater. That thang colder than a polar bear's toe nails, you hear me?!

DEATH TO PHOTOSHOP

So, anyone who knows me, knows that I love Adobe Suite--Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. Thus, I'm intrigued by people's ability to edit good photos and make them GREAT. But there's always exceptions...

Look at this recent picture of Rihanna on the cover of Elle Magazine. She's very small as is, WHY would they edit her to be unrealistically thin for this cover shoot? *scratches head* Who does this stuff appeal to? You?

Better late than never

I had an incredible Memorial Day weekend and I hope you all did, too. First and foremost, lemme give a special shout out to my grandfather, whose a veteran, all of my cousins and everyone else who serves, or has served our country! You are appreciated!

Now back to this past weekend. So, I'm slowly accumulating one of THE best live concert lists ever! Over Memorial Day weekend, I added Joy Fest to my list. The concert was held in Carowinds Theme Park, so not only did I get to see a live show, but I got to ride rides all day beforehand. THE BUSINESS--You hear me?!

The concert line-up included Fred Hammond, Donald Lawrence, Canton Jones, 21:03, a comedic performance by Sinbad (who was hilarious) and my personal favorite gospel singer ever, J. Moss! I cannot begin to tell you how good the show was, especially J. Moss's set. So, I'll let pictures say 1000 words, I guess.

The lines for the rides were on SWOLE all morning.

...oh. And it was HOT as all outside, outside. lol



Okay, so I think it's lame when people take pictures of their hair and post it. But I ain't take this. And my homie @FredReid gotta realize my waves spinnin' harder than his even after having braids for 4 years. Y'hearme'bit?



The Intimidator. This picture doesn't do justice. This drop is 211 feet with a 74 degree slope, son! Enough to make you sat, not sit, sat down for the rest of the day if you ain't prepared. And it got up to speeds of 74 mph.

Spring Break Photo Competition

Remember my homie, Margaret, that allowed me to lend a hand in an art project of her's a while back? Well, she recently bought a dope Canon DSLR (similar to the one that I have) so I decided to challenge her to a friendly photo competition.

We both took trips over Spring Break...I went to Miami to hang with my extended family and she went to Mexico with the UNC Women's Soccer team ('09 National Champs by the way--sorry, i couldn't resist) and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to see who could bring back the best picture. Surrounded by a lot of nice scenery, both in Mexico and South Florida, I love both of the pics that we chose to use, haha.
