Public Service Announcement: The Best Place For Young Singles to Get Chose!

Feb 5, 2013

When you're in that college campus bubble for four years, it's easy to take for granted the ample opportunities there are to FLOURISH, g.

College is supposed to be a microcosm of the real world or whatever, but NAH. It's a microcosm of Heaven. Because, where in the "real world" are you (mostly) surrounded by ambitious, intelligent, progressive-minded, beautiful individuals from all different races, ethnicities and walks of life? WHERE? In terms of choosing and getting chose, college is like a self-serve yogurt jant and if you ain't eating then it sucks to suck WELP. *burps and wipes corners of mouf*

For many of us, the collegiate smorgasbord is but a faint memory. For the rest of you, it'll be over before you know it. And unless you're apart of a book club, a mass choir, or some kinda underground dance team like You Got Served, then you'll probably never be around that many like-minded goal-oriented folk again. (I do acknowledge that work is somewhat of an alternative but, still, not really.)

This post isn't all nostalgia, doe. I have encouraging news! There's one place that's comparable to the college campus experience with regard to potential suitors and seductresses just waiting to get chose. And that place is Super Target. Here's a few reasons why:

1. EVERY SINGLE TAHM I go to Target I see a woman so bad it makes me forget what I went there to buy. Just take a minute to think about your experiences there, also. Attractive people thrive in Super Target. There's someone there for you, no matter your tastes. It's like a giant, red magnet for the young and the conchy (word to LC).

2. It's free! Unlike the club, galas, socials, and all 'em other places people go to in order to get chose...Target's admission is FREE.99. There's no waiting in line. And peep this, if you wear a red shirt, you're VIP (meaning men and/or women will approach YOU. You get to skip the awkward approach/break the ice phase right off the bat!)

3. Target does price matching. Meaning, if you find something at a better value somewhere else, they'll match it at Target. Some people think this only applies to products, but it also applies to men and women. Meaning, if you see someone who you think is cute elsewhere, go to Target and there is bound to be someone equally as cute or better. GUA-RAN-TEED.

Now this isn't an exhaustive list by any means, but it's Friday and I ain't got time to sit here all night and  give advice knowing y'all ain't gone listen. Basically what I'm trying to say is, next time you get all fly to go out, skip the club and head to Super Target instead. Holla!

Public Service Announcement: Have a Slice of Humble Pie

Sep 14, 2011

Photobucket
Lately when I log into Twitter I feel like I’m viewing a job board where people can post their accolades to be reviewed by potential employers or something. The spammy weight loss links are bad enough, now it’s plagued by disingenuously humble self-promotion. Ish like:

"Omg! If my coworkers and I keep having brunch at Ruth’s Chris on the company’s dime, I’m going to gain a 1,000 pounds yall! #GoldmanSachsSwag" @SelfPromotingSally

I spent time reflecting to make sure that my annoyance wasn’t a result of jealousy. But when I saw a tweet that said something like, “Lady at the cleaners told me to pick up my clothes between 9a-4p; doesn’t she know that only people with jobs get their clothes dry-cleaned,” I knew it was less about me and more about niggas reaching what Ryan O’Connell calls the “Race to the Great First Job”:
“It’s a race after college that no one really talks about—the race to find your dream job and have bragging rights. When you graduate college… you flaunt your professional life as a way to make ‘friends’ feel bad about themselves.” (source)
Besides, when I consider all of the people who have caused me to feel a bit jealous over the years, 99.9% of them are humble oddly enough. They’re usually folk who recognize that they had help to get where they are and that success (which is relative) doesn’t make them any better than those around them.

Ultimately, I think there’s a trend by post-grads, and even undergrads, to put what they DO in the forefront in an effort to define themselves. People constantly feel the need to sell themselves to friends, family, and a bunch of randoms who they’ll never meet in real life. But Arri explains the issue with that:
"Who I am is not what I do. This is a distinction that is often lost in American culture. The language of capitalistic self-valuation is demonstrated when we ask 'What do you do?' 'What are you?' The assumption is that being employed makes you somebody, and being un(der)employed makes you nobody. I happen to be un(der)employed after graduating into one of the worst recessions in recent history." (source)
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t think there is anything wrong with being appreciative of what you’ve accomplished. It just becomes a problem when you start attaching self-worth (or lack thereof) to your achievements. *slides piece of humble pie across table*

The Real You vs. The Twitter You

Jul 31, 2011

Photobucket
Everyday, this tweet trends. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. G.

Self-disclosure on the internet is high because there's a sense of anonymity. It's the same reason Honesty Box took over Facebook at one point and Juicy Campus had the trap jumpin' for months on end. While Twitter isn't completely anonymous, it still allows people to hide behind an alias and communicate over the web, as opposed to in person. People LOVE being able to speak their minds and not be held immediately accountable for it like they would in face-to-face interaction. Twitter provides that for EVERYONE, not just a select few folks who "act differently on the internet than they do in real life".

But even more than that, people share ideas to express themselves, explain themselves, and to build relationships. It's all about impression management and giving off the best You as possible. So, it's common for us to switch our swag up to match our environment. One person could vary tremendously between Twitter, the workplace, church, the classroom, within an organization, at parties, etc. Does that make them fake or "totally different"? Or is it possible that you just have not been exposed to EVERY side of them?

Personally, I know that the majority of my tweets aren't surprising to the people that know me best, but to a mere acquaintance (and I have a lot of these online), some of the things I say may be unexpected. Maybe yall shouldn't be so afraid to call people acquaintances and realize that you don't know your "friends" as well as you think. But yo, if you use Twitter, you are NO exception to this.  Everyone on that jawn could have their card pulled by someone that knows them really well. But is it necessarily a BAD thing? In my opinion, no. It's human nature.

DEAR LUPE FIASCO; Re: "Obama is the biggest terrorist."

Jun 24, 2011

Photobucket

Dear Lupe,
Please allow me to calmly, yet swiftly, usher you out of the paint, g. I used to respect and appreciate what you do for Hip Hop, but lately I’ve just been wanting to slap yo coofie off, รก la:

First, you advocated non-voting in an effort to garner World Peace on some Michael Jackson "We Are the World" type stuff. And most recently, you went on record saying that “Obama is the biggest terrorist”. At first I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I certainly thought there was no way you would publicly call my president a terrorist knowing what a statement of that caliber implies. But sure enough, you went on Fox News (of all places) looking like a young Marcus Garvey, ready to defend your stance. You even went so far as to compare President Obama to Osama Bin Laden in that he is the “mastermind” behind terrorist acts. Nah, g. You gotta take a pill of the chill variety.

See, you present nothing more than a logical fallacy. According to you, if = C, and B = C, then A = B. If President Obama is responsible for the killing of innocent people, and Osama Bin Laden is responsible for the killing of innocent people, then President Obama and Osama Bin Laden are both terrorists. It looks right. It sounds right. But if you examine the premises a little closer, you will see that the conclusion is not valid or sound.

What you fail to realize is that killing during open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations is an ACT OF WAR. While violent or destructive acts committed by groups as a means of coercion is an ACT OF TERROR. Yes, they are morally equivalent because innocent blood is spilled. But there is a HUGE difference between violently killing people simply to incite fear and accidentally killing people despite reasonable precautions.

Let's try this:
Gucci Mane made a radio song with Trey Songz singing the hook, called “Beat It Up”. You also made a horrible radio song with Trey Songz singing the hook, called “Out of My Head”. Therefore, there is no difference between your conscious rappin'ahh and Gucci Mane’s ignant’ahh. Congratulations, bro, you have officially sold out.

You see how that works, Lupe?

No matter how you try to paint the picture, President Obama is not a "TERRORIST". Yes, US Foreign Policy sucks. Yes, he has failed to uphold his promises to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. But to call the man a terrorist is an attack on his character and completely untrue.

*kicks sneakers off and hangs jacket in closet like Mr. Rogers*

Dear Teyana Taylor....

Apr 13, 2011

Photobucket

Dear TT, I can call you TT, right?

For years, the general populace has been trying to figure out what exactly is it you do and how you became famous when we've only witnessed you flash your young tenderloins on a few runways and release your very own line of lip-chap.

Honestly, you had niggas believing that you snuck through the backdoor of relevancy (and I use that term with caution). But wholetime, you were concealing the fact that you were a welterweight underground boxer and worked part-time security for Chris Brown. Make that paper, Boo Boo.

You see, I'm not in the business of knocking anyone's hustle. But I do have to ask....WHAT WERE YOU THINKING "ALLEGEDLY" ASSAULTING AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER OVER CHRIS BROWN? So, a chick made a snide remark and the best counter-attack that you could conjure up was to throw caution to the wind and go Leroy "The Last Dragon" on her, b?!
Photobucket
That's what's good in the Suburbs?

And to make matters worse, you fled the scene before the cops arrived. Now I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but nothing says GUILTY like someone running away from a crime scene. Did you burn out in your Harley-Davidson, my nigga? Or is it gang policy to just take your shirt off and run down the street after acts of recklessness?
Photobucket
You let ME know. I'm just trying to piece together the missing details.

I've heard of being ride or die for your crew and all. But you fighting for Team Breezy, not John Gotti and the Gambino crime family, beh. There had to be someone disposable in y'all clique of pop-locking misfits that could have handled that light work. Omarion, maybe? In your quest to be famous, TT, you have done little to stake your claim as a performer or anything of the sort. But oh! In your quest to be infamous doe?! You right on track. #TeamBreezyorDie

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Apr 10, 2011

Photobucket

I usually try to take people's feelings into consideration when I write, as not to offend anyone. But be clear, this topic may ruffle some feathers and the amount of cares that I give couldn't be seen under the strongest of microscopes, g. So what is the topic you ask?

Sex.

The media glamorizes it. Music exalts it. Society trivializes it. It's the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about but everyone wants to talk about. After having someone tell me, "No need to put sex on a pedestal dear. As long as everyone is having safe sex, it's all good," I realized that my view of sex doesn't exactly coincide with that of society.

Photobucket
An ad for American Apparel clothing store

I'm not going to speak from a religious standpoint, because I know that has a tendency to fall on deaf ears. Nor is my intent to make chastity out to be an indicator of purity, worthiness and respect and make sex out to be deviant and shameful. Since logos seems to be the only way to appeal to some of you niggas, I am here to strictly do numbers:
  • A study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that one in four young people who have unprotected sex develop STD's every year. In the same study, 73 percent of sexually active college students reported having unprotected sex. One in six say sex without a condom, once in a while, "is no big deal."
  • According to the CDC, HIV is the fifth leading cause of death of Americans aged 25 to 44 in the United States
  • One in every five people living with HIV have not even had their infection diagnosed, let alone reported.
  • The estimated lifetime risk of becoming infected with HIV is 1 in 16 for black males, and 1 in 30 for black females, a far higher risk than for white males (1 in 104) and white females (1 in 588).
Now I could slang statistics until my wrist gets sore, but maybe statistics don't appeal to some of you. So let's approach this from a different angle:
  • You got "undercover" males spreading diseases to unsuspecting women, especially in the black community.
  • You got women being objectified both in person and in the media, and we are all but desensitized to it.
  • You got undiagnosed people passing along diseases unknowingly, because they are unwilling to get their status checked.
  • You got women using sex as a bargaining chip.
  • You got children having children.
  • You got couples aborting babies, sometimes leading to the death of the pregnant female.
  • You got niggas out here TAKING sex, because they feel that they are entitled to it.
  • You got ENTIRE relationships being made, sustained, and ruined on the basis of sex alone.
The bottom line is that sex is anything but "casual" and society is sowing seeds of neglect and perpetuating fairy-tales.  It's crazy, because people are so hesitant to open themselves up to one another emotionally, but will physically entrust their bodies to people who are out here stuttering when asked about their body count.

Now y'all tell me, how practical is it to be hypersexual when you have so much stacked against you? I seriously need answers, g. (<==== not even almost rhetorical) When you have sex with someone, you're placing a lot of responsibility on that other person to be honest and forthright with you and lust got y'all out here entrusting your body temples to the same nigga that set Tupac up! How you chose to live your life is to each his own, but take them rose colored glasses off g, and stop spreading these rudimentary'ahh notions about an act that is anything but...

In true dramatic fashion, I leave you with a melody lol mainly because this used to be my joint

Ladies, have your Facebook messages or Twitter DM's ever been filled with  hopeless pursuers who think they stand even a sliver of a chance by telling you things such as, "dang you sexcci and special like a unicorn or something. hit me up ma."

Fellas, I have seen first-hand what YOU are capable of when overcome by The Thirst. And in the era of screen cap casualities, y'all out here dropping like flies everyday, b.

Photobucket

A wise man once said, "if you knew better, you would do better". So, I am going to give you dudes the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe you aren't aware that your actions are out of line. So today, we unite as one in the perilous fight against Facebook/Twitter Simpin' around the world.  At this moment, I would like for you lames, creepers, and cornballs to stand, raise your right hand and repeat after me:
"I, [insert yo' name here], being of renewed mind and body, do hereby pledge that I will do my best at all times to live by the creed of Real Niggas everywhere, the dying breed of men who know better than to approach a woman via social networking sites.  I promise to fight everyday to keep The Thirst at bay and I will also give my time to raise awareness in my community about Facebook/Twitter Simpin'.

No longer will I spend my nights lurking on the pages of innocent and unsuspecting women who are undoubtedly disgusted by the tremendous amount of lameness displayed by my actions. And if at any point I feel myself slipping back into my old ways, I will not only delete my accounts, but I agree to go to the nearest highway and skip right into oncoming traffic."
I would like to thank you all for agreeing to make this change in your lives. Now go forth, my brethren, and do better!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Stop Blaming Greeks/Athletes and Step Your Game Up, Fellas!

Mar 5, 2011

Photobucket

Even though I haven't been single for practically 5 years now, I still keep my ear to the streets and take note of the struggles and the triumphs of my single brethren. Because, God forbid, what if I have to dust of my Chuck Taylors and get back in the game one day.  I'd like to be able to say, I stiiiill got it. On the flip side, being cognizant of the dating climate surely prevents me from taking what I have for granted because it can get hard ouchea in these streets.

But alas! Onto the point of this post!

One thing that amazed me while in college, on the campus of UNC specifically, was the multitude of single, attractive, intelligent, and driven women that seemingly went unapproached (properly!). In a setting where the ratio is dern near 5:1 in favor of men, if you aren't talking to at least one of these Nefretiti's....you like boys are losing.

And not only are some of you losing, you refuse to take accountability for it. Instead, you would rather swear by this notion that "girls only chase ballplayers and Greeks".  It's sickening. In a world where basically the only place there isn't a disproportionate ratio of women to men is in Men's locker rooms, there is no country for lame, tired excuses like that.  You niggas need to man up and  stop making athletes and Greeks your scapegoats. Isn't it against Man Law to slander another man for personal gain anyway? And so what if they are highly favored? Face it: some of y'all game is on life support, and many of you are mad Creeper-like.
Photobucket
Passive-aggressively getting at women via Facebook photo comments and Twitter DMs.  Grabbing girls you don't even know at the club and saying the first thing that comes to mind, like "Sorry, I thought that was a braille name tag." And then you wonder why you can't get any play?

At this point in the game, women will settle for a dude with good table manners and no obvious physical deformities. It's a buyers market out here, b. And all jokes aside, a respectful, cordial approach to women people in general has never led me wrong. Instead of worrying about who these girls are chasing, why'on't you niggas catch up and get on som'n! Spend some time with some positive male influences so you know how to approach women and stop listening to Charlie Sheen and Kanye West. Besides if your nights often times end like this:

Photobucket

Then chances are, it's YOU and not these other dudes you claim are stealing your shine. Consequently, your argument is voided.

Public Service Announcement: STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO

Jan 20, 2011

Photobucket

Everyone prides themselves on being different than the next man. We conform just enough to fit in, but remain uniquely different enough to set ourselves apart. It’s a delicate balance. And the people of Twitter have taken it upon themselves to help you strike that balance. Every day, people tweet the things they think others should and should not do. And if I kept a running list of all the things people prohibited, there wouldn't be much left. The following list consists of things that I've noticed will apparently get you exiled and kicked off the island:

Do NOT get mad over tweets. “It’s just Twitter” and words have no ability to cause harm at all.

Don’t spread positivity. Rev Run, Daily Love Quotes, and things of that nature are for the birds. Be apathetic and as a**hole’ish as possible at all times.

Do not spend your hard-earned money on expensive sneakers (i.e. Cool Greys, Foams, etc.). And let’s not forget you’re not supposed to wear brands like New Balance and Aasics, either. So what does that leave people, you ask? Nikes. Sperrys. Play it safe, my nigga, and be like everyone else.

Do not subtweet. Ignor the fact that the person WILL LIKELY see it (and sometimes retweet it not knowing it’s about them, oddly enough). You know how the game go, “if you have a problem bring it to me” so stuff can get unnecessarily blown out of proportion.

Black people – do not vote because you are not informed. You only vote straight-ticket Democratic and for minority candidates anyway.
Hit the "read more" link for the rest...
If you aren't Greek, you are to have NO opinion on Greek life whatsoever. Who the heck do you think you are to form a subjective opinion on something based on what you see? You are allowed to make judgments on anything else (politicians, celebrities, athletes) but it’s preposterous to form conclusions on Greeks without having crossed those burning sands yourself.

Straight males – you are not to use phrases like “lmbo” or “omg” because there are those who can make conclusions about your sexual orientation based on the use of acronyms.

You shouldn’t tweet scripture because it’s condescending. There are gonna be times when you mess up and even though the Bible doesn’t teach perfectionism, people will say you are a hypocrite. Don’t you dare try to be a Christian and human at the same time.

Don’t be caught dead in a flight jacket, regardless of the fact that it’s both warm and affordable. People who know nothing about your socioeconomic background will assume you can afford, and should buy other ish….like that super "exclusive" North Face gear that people brag about having.

By no means should you find Lil Duval funny. HIS ignorance and disregard for others is just one step too far above the standard accepted level of ignorance.

Don't receive a BBM and respond to it on your own time. And God forbid you tweet before you answer a text message. Just don’t do it. Oh, and you mustn’t have a phone plan with TMobile. It’s “played out”, as well.

Don’t wear flip flips or shorts in the winter. It isn’t about how you feel. It’s about how people think you should feel.

You can’t pay for a first date with a gift card. It means you’re frugal or broke.

People constantly tweet about the eb and flow of being single, but don’t you dare tweet about your relationship. People care to hear more about the issues of single people.

You get the picture right? No matter what you do there will always be someone there to tell you that it is not right, it's wack, etc. I wish people would stop trying to dictate the actions of others and focus their energy on bettering themselves. You don't like something, so be it. But telling people what to do is not the business in my opinion. "If you surround yourself with negative people, you'll never feel settled in or become an equal. They'll suppress you of your spirit and rinse you dry of smiles." _Jessie Cornish

High heels and high standard though, right?

Dec 29, 2010

I might get some heat for this post, but it's my blog and I'm gon' say my piece and usher you to the red X if you'on't like it.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. It's evident by some women's preference in men that times are hard as h*ll ouchea in these streets and ain't no hope for y'all! I've learned that if a nigga can sing, hold his own in a soul train line, or his abs look like them lil 3 ounce bottles of water, it doesn't matter if he:

-obviously likes boys, too
Photobucket

-ignorant
Photobucket

-or doesn't rock with black women at all
Photobucket

Status and money make a woman put her standards on the burner. These are grandiose examples, but can be seen on college campuses, in clubs, at workplaces, etc.

I give up. I'm no longer gonna try and impart wisdom to let'chall see that there are still good dudes left in Amer'cuhh.  Don't know why I took it upon myself in the first place  cause I'm good over here and these niggas ain't payin me to boost them up. Next time y'all take subtle shots at dudes on Twitter, just know that you sound silly. And yes, my subtweets are about you.

Public Service Announcement: YOU CHOSE TO GO TO A PRESTIGIOUS SCHOOL, NOW YOU MAD?

Dec 14, 2010

Photobucket

So I'm the ONLY one that has a problem with people saying, "If I went to 'such and such' University I would have a 4.0 GPA"?

Alright, cool. I'll be the Lone Ranger.

One thing I quickly noticed during my stint at UNC is that a lot of people are big headed without merit. Since when did it become cool to downplay the accomplishments of others in an effort to justify your sub-par performances?

Sound like jealousy to me, homie.

So you got into a top tier school? Fine. But if your GPA is trash, your lips should be sealed because YOU made the conscious decision to go to the university on the hill knowing your work ethic was on Section-8. Red flags should have gone up anyway when yo' academic adviser looked you in the face and asked if you had a back up plan to this whole college thing.

“He who is humble is confident and wise. He who brags is insecure and lacking." You know what speaks for you? Scholarships; internships; academic awards; graduating with Honors; writing a Senior Honors Thesis; getting accepted into Med School or the graduate program of your choice. It's NOT merely existing on a campus that has a good reputation. Because believe it or not, YOU and your friends may not be making A's and B's like in high school, but there are people around you who are still doing just that. People who party less, and study more. People who speak less to their accomplishments in highschool because those days are over.

Wake up. Shut up. Let your grind talk for you. Please.
...Oh and get off Twitter talm'bout you "study grinding", nigga, no you ain't!!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - Video Blog!

Two's company, but three's a crowd.

Now in 2010, four+ is a "team". Let y'all tell it.

Aside from that fact that you, La'Quanderius, Davisha an'em hardly qualify as a "team", a group is only as good as their winning percentage at the end of the day.

Some of you are constantly losing yet insist on calling you and your select group of friends a "team" for aesthetic purposes. That's like bragging about being a member of the Carolina Panthers in my opinion. -____-

Don't get me wrong, certain groups of people are definitely capable of using this term and getting away with it. As a matter of fact, I would very well like to be drafted by some of your teams. But, having multiple people move in the same direction isn't praise-worthy unless that direction is up. Keep that in mind next time some of you think about making an announcement regarding you and your "team".

Baow.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Sep 26, 2010

Y'all are the most disclaimer abusing people ever, you hear me?!

"...#NoShade"

"I'm not trying to be mean but..."

"I usually don't do this but..."

"...., I was just kidding, you know that right?"

"No offense, but..."

"I'm not racist or anything, but..."

MAN UP!!! I'm going to judge you regardless of what you preface your statements with. If you really want to save face or prevent yourself from offending someone, just don't say anything at all. But using disclaimers to remove ownership of an impending statement is highly ineffective. It's also precisely what you NOT gon' get away with in my presence.

I was always told that "but" negates everything that comes before it anyway. So next time someone tells you "No offense but [some random offensive statement]." A red flag should immediately go off.

I'm not really sure where disclaimers originated or the sure-fire purpose that they serve. I thought it was to warn people of danger or remove legal liability, right? I'm sure whoever patented "The Disclaimer" had no clue you all would flip it and use it to mask your true feelings in conversation. Outlandish statements are bound to be said. I just think you all should have the outlandish gumption to stand behind 'em.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT--Bitter women, get over it!

Jul 3, 2010

Photobucket

I used to have what you could call a vendetta of sorts against bitter women. But after some thought, I changed the error of my ways. I now have a vendetta against some bitter women. Progress is a process, folk.

Anyway, as a result of deep thought and consideration, I actually empathize for some women who have an icebox where their heart used to be. I was just thinking last night, to be in love with someone and have them take advantage of that would be CRUSHING. Honestly, it would take an act of Congress for ME to trust someone again, so I understand where some of you women are coming from. But let me be very specific, this is in reference to those who had their hearts broken while in a committed relationship. The ex-girlfriends, the ex-wives. Those are the women I feel remorse for. *Ques Jay-Z's "Lost One" and pours out a little Kool-aid*

NOW, for the other 80% of bitter women. I'm still working on my novel, "99 Ways to Kill Y'all Self"! Some of y'all are wrongfully putting yourself in the category of women that I previously described but you %80 are a totally different bread. You all are bitter because you acted like a relationship existed where none existed at all. You are the groupie. The jumpoff. Number 2, maybe even 3. The homie. The "little sis'." You are stored in his phone with a nickname. You confused interest with commitment. You thought because you were "talking" to a guy and received regular calls/texts that he owed you something, completely overlooking the fact that the majority of those calls/texts that you receive come after sun down. You call yourself marking your territory and getting mad when you see another female's name pop up on his phone, forgetting that you aren't even dating him. Point blank: if it has not been explicitely stated from both parties that you are committed to one another, don't assume. Some of y'all are on this "N.A.S." tip because a dude broke the terms of y'all cut buddy agreement and other comparable situations. Where they do that at?! The moral of the story is simple...get over it!

Disclaimer: Excuse me for rambling.

Nowadays, any deviation from the norm is frowned upon. Everyone has to be the same. It's never became more apparent than after I got a Twitter account and realized how similar people are.

In order to be a true fan of music, your favorite rapper has to be Lupe. You must swear by Common, Talib Kweli, and Mos Def. You must constantly pay homage to the Fat Boys, EPMD, Whodini, Eric B. and Rakim. Admire the past, with subtle mentions of Lauryn Hill. Denounce anything with bass, for the ability to dance to a track invalidates it's credibility. All the while appreciating the "alternative" sounds of Peter Bjorn, Maroon 5, and Gavin Degraw.

In order to be a true Sneakerhead, you must be a slave to the Jumpman sign. Recite release dates like versus from the Holy Bible. Run out and buy every Retro, some twice, just to keep a pair on ice. Frown on Saucony, Puma, Reebok, Converse. Shoot, just about anything that's affordable, because price is indicative of appearance. And if 27,000 other people aren't wearing exactly what you have, then it mustn't be fly. Right?

In order to be "open-minded", your explicit attitude toward homosexuality must be unprejudiced; all the while your implicit beliefs regarding institutionalized racism, universal healthcare and poverty can be anything but impartial. Just as long as you aren't opposed to gay marriage rights, who the heck cares if you're completely dismissive of religious people because faith makes them narrow-minded. Oh, and blow dro, 'cause nothing elevates your intellect like a blunt of that exotic.

In order to be different, you must be a carbon copy of everyone else, but in your own right. Dress eclectic, because thrifting was created, cultivated, and sustained by the nonconformist. Join a group like everyone else but emphasize how you haven't changed "like everyone else". Praise Lady Gaga. Condemn Nicki Minaj, for she's a little TOO different.

I just don't get it. The more time I spend on Twitter, the more it dawns on me that people want others to be exactly like them. Arguing your opinion is only okay if it's the same as everyone else's. Music, fashion, public issues...everyone has to be on one accord, or else. Just let people live already! And truth be told, you aren't as different as you think you are.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Apr 22, 2010

I scratched the service of this issue on my Twitter page but not all of you follow me on there (for whatever reason lol). ANYwho...

Dear self-proclaimed "Sneakerheads":
Y'all make me sick. Not common-cold sick. Like, terminal illness sick. A lot of responsibility comes with the title "sneakerhead" and much like the overflow of independent "rappers," y'all are claiming the rights with nothing to show for it!

I mean, look at this bamma ish:

Photobucket
"Steezin on these heathens--these don't come out for another week" _Teyana Taylor (via Twitter)

Disgusting! These shoes were on sale for $120.00 on EVERY legitimate sneaker website and she's posin' like she is holding two pieces of gold from King Tut's tomb? Unacceptable.

Many of you don't understand the difference between a sneaker enthusiast and a Sneakerhead. Many of you just like shoes. Please leave it at that and don't tread in unfamiliar waters. You own a few pair of Retros, and some cross-color Adidas..fine. Be that. But don't brag about your "collection".

Sneakerheads didn't decide one day that they wanted to be a Sneakerhead, but over years of accumulating OGs, limited, Rare, and flat out exclusive sneakers, they have come into their own. Sneakerheads DON'T post pictures licking the bottom of their sneakers. Sneakerheads DON'T walk into boutiques and tag check. Sneakerheads recognize quality over quantity. And Sneakerheads have an idea who Tinker Hatfield, DJ Clark Kent, Matt Halfhill, Mayor, Wil Whitney, Chris Vidal, Jeremy Scott, and Joe La Puma are. Last but not least, a sneakerhead keeps their boxes!! I could continue, but I'm in class right now and my teacher keeps staring at me with the I know you're not typing notes face. But I hope I got my point across.

With love. (Disclaimer: I'm not a sneakerhead. Can't afford it. But, I know a lil' bit.)

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

So this is what my timeline on Twitter looks like today:

-Thank God for today! Happy Easter everyone!
-Y’all heathens were getting high yesterday, now you praising God! Ok?
-Happy Resurrection day twitfam!
-Y’all only praise God on Easter and Christmas, or when something good happens. #smh
-On my way to Church, hope everyone has a blessed day!
-#Shoutout to those who were in the club last night and are praising God today.

Out of those statements, can you tell me who is Christian and who is not? (That was rhetorical, of course, but one would assume that the people exalting His name are Christians and that the people throwing shade are not.) It's odd but most people who profess to be Christians woke up this morning with the purpose of shaming those who they have deemed not worthy enough to praise God. The bible says, "Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him”(Proverb 26:12). This basically states, there is more hope for a fool, than for a self-righteous religious person.

In my opinion, there are ways to go about planting seeds and making efforts to win souls for Christ, but what I’ve observed is that many people present the Gospel in such a way that it turns people COMPLETELY away from Christ. Instead of presenting the Word in an effort to save people, many "Christians” make cute statements that belittle those who may not be completely saved, sanctified, and Holy Ghost filled.

The Bible also says, “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven” (Luke 6:37). But what I’ve concluded about a lot of college-aged Christians is that they go through this exact progression:

1. not completely delivered 2. saved 3. filled with the Holy Spirit 4. now qualified enough to judge those who are in the same position that they were once in.

I mean I'm exaggerating a little, but I see this in a lot of people who claim to be moving in Christ, especially on Holiday's like Easter, Christmas, etc. They make statements judging other people and it can't the way God wants us to be. I just think people need to self-reflect before assessing the actions of others.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It has been brought to my attention recently that people don't understand the concept of overstepping their boundaries. In lamens terms, niggas are gettin' way out of pocket and need to stay in their place. Me and my friends call it rollerskating, and some of y'all need to get back in-line.
Don't fret. Getting back in the pocket is simple...

The first step to doing so is realizing who you are. Don't lie to yourself! I can name a few people who are lame and absolutely refuse to embrace it. Once you've come to terms with the fact that you're wack, then we can proceed from there and implement ways to get you the help that you need. But if you keep lying to yo'self then there is no hope! You'll continue to overstep your boundaries (i.e. doing things you have no business doing and saying things you have no business saying).

If you've been graced with a few breakthroughs recently (a new job, a new boo, a new car) don't get delirious. Positive things happen to the lame and non-lame alike. Be appreciative, not boastful. And don't think for once those breakthroughs have miraculously moved you out of the category of lame. You are still the same person and should consequently stay in the pocket.

Don't comment on things you don't know anything about. Lames have this unrealistic idea that their opinion matters and I'm here to tell you otherwise. Most people who have gotten out of pocket, have done so by putting on a public display of ignorance in some way, shape, or form. Either educate yourself such that your opinion DOES matter or just shut up and leave the politics to the politicians. Stay in the pocket.

Lastly, lames...you cannot escape your past. In the event that you are making progress, do that. But remember the lame from which you've came. For example, if your past relationships all ended because of EXTRA stuff and now you're finally on the come up...don't think that you're in liberty to discuss the relationships of others because your house just got in order. Stay in the pocket.

In summation, there is still hope. Staying in yo' place is not a difficult concept to understand. I understand that it's human nature to want to venture outside of yo'self and be something that you're not...but that's not yo place. Yo' place, sir and ma'am.....is in the pocket.
Bye.

TWITTER ETIQUETTE

Jan 31, 2010

So I have noticed in the several months that I have been an avid user of Twitter that some people are still having trouble grasping the DOs and DON'Ts. So in case you were confused, here is the run-down on Twitter etiquette. (The following photos were made by me, but the names are fake as not to hurt any of my followers feelings...because we all know some of y'all are soft.)

1. DO NOT reply to every celebrity you follow. FYI unless they are doing absolute NOTHING with their life, they aren’t going to respond.

2. DO NOT think you’re hard by @ mentioning someone, but you got the hush mouth when you see them in person. What are you a Twitter Gangster? WOMP!!!

Twitter DO NOT2

3. DO NOT get Twitter if you’re only going to tweet once a month. Stick to Facebook. Especially if your tweets are basic.

Twitter DO NOT3

4. DO NOT impersonate a celebrity. That is hands down the lamesest thing you could ever do. Are you really that lost, that you’d rather perpetrate as someone else than be yourself. #getalife

Twitter DO NOT4
Check out the rest under the "full post" link!

5.
DO NOT
over use your RT tool. Ain’t nothing worse than a person that retweets everything under the sun. If you can’t come up with your own independent thoughts, close your account. #imjustsayin

Twitter DO NOT5

6. DO NOT go in on trending topics if you’re not entertaining. You just end up taking up space in my timeline. No one wants to hear you ramble for hours with extra basic tweets. You will be unfollowed immediately.

Twitter DO NOT6

7. DO use the DM (direct message) tool. It’s there for you and your little friends and all your inside jokes. Because when you and your friend go back and forth, and back and forth with an hour long conversation. I get pissed, and you guessed it, you will be unfollowed.

Twitter DO NOT7
Can y'all think of any more Twitter DOs and DONTs that people should be aware of??!!
