Who are you calling stupid? Unqualified?!

Affirmative action, defined as the set of public policies and initiatives designed to help eliminate past and present discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin always seems to be under attack by certain people claiming "reverse racism" based on unwarranted preferences. Those headstrong, rose-colored glasses wearing, naive people can do one thing and one thing only......kiss my butt.

First and foremost, ANYONE benefiting from affirmative action still must have valid job or educational qualifications. In other words, affirmative action is not a hand-out of some sorts, contrary to popular belief. It ENSURES equal opportunity, which would otherwise be shoved under the table. Most people in opposition to affirmative action stand on the firm belief that affirmative action warrants opportunities to those less-qualified and I completely disagree with that notion! For example, the Rooney Rule requires NFL teams to interview a certain number of minorities for head coaching jobs. Since its initiation in 2003, there have been several minority coaches hired, most of whom are very successful. Mike Tomlin, current Pittsburgh Steelers coach, is proof that NFL's Rooney Rule is working. Now the NCAA Division 1-A, which does not have any sanctions on the hiring process, has 7 minority football coaches out of 119 teams. You do the math....

Now, I'm not going to sit here and list out the resume that granted me admission into UNC-Chapel Hill for lack of free time; however, I dare anyone to state a claim that their friend...who now attends NC-State, should have been here in my place.

What are your thoughts on affirmative action?
