Fred Hampton, public speaker and non-violent community organizer
  • Studied law at Triton Junior College 
  • Best known as the founder of the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party in November 1968
  • Formed a nonagression pact between Chicago's most powerful street gangs, stressing the importance of ethnic unity; created what he called a "rainbow coalition" (a multiracial alliance of black, Puerto Rican, and poor youths)
  • On December 4th, 1969, Hampton was murdered during a raid by the Chicago police, who fired ~100 rounds into the apartment where he slept. He was just 21 years of age
