PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

I usually try to take people's feelings into consideration when I write, as not to offend anyone. But be clear, this topic may ruffle some feathers and the amount of cares that I give couldn't be seen under the strongest of microscopes, g. So what is the topic you ask?

Sex.

The media glamorizes it. Music exalts it. Society trivializes it. It's the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about but everyone wants to talk about. After having someone tell me, "No need to put sex on a pedestal dear. As long as everyone is having safe sex, it's all good," I realized that my view of sex doesn't exactly coincide with that of society.

I'm not going to speak from a religious standpoint, because I know that has a tendency to fall on deaf ears. Nor is my intent to make chastity out to be an indicator of purity, worthiness and respect and make sex out to be deviant and shameful. Since logos seems to be the only way to appeal to some of you niggas, I am here to strictly do numbers:
  • A study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that one in four young people who have unprotected sex develop STD's every year. In the same study, 73 percent of sexually active college students reported having unprotected sex. One in six say sex without a condom, once in a while, "is no big deal."
  • According to the CDC, HIV is the fifth leading cause of death of Americans aged 25 to 44 in the United States
  • One in every five people living with HIV have not even had their infection diagnosed, let alone reported.
  • The estimated lifetime risk of becoming infected with HIV is 1 in 16 for black males, and 1 in 30 for black females, a far higher risk than for white males (1 in 104) and white females (1 in 588).
Now I could slang statistics until my wrist gets sore, but maybe statistics don't appeal to some of you. So let's approach this from a different angle:
  • You got "undercover" males spreading diseases to unsuspecting women, especially in the black community.
  • You got women being objectified both in person and in the media, and we are all but desensitized to it.
  • You got undiagnosed people passing along diseases unknowingly, because they are unwilling to get their status checked.
  • You got women using sex as a bargaining chip.
  • You got children having children.
  • You got couples aborting babies, sometimes leading to the death of the pregnant female.
  • You got niggas out here TAKING sex, because they feel that they are entitled to it.
  • You got ENTIRE relationships being made, sustained, and ruined on the basis of sex alone.
The bottom line is that sex is anything but "casual" and society is sowing seeds of neglect and perpetuating fairy-tales.  It's crazy, because people are so hesitant to open themselves up to one another emotionally, but will physically entrust their bodies to people who are out here stuttering when asked about their body count.

Now y'all tell me, how practical is it to be hypersexual when you have so much stacked against you? I seriously need answers, g. (<==== not even almost rhetorical) When you have sex with someone, you're placing a lot of responsibility on that other person to be honest and forthright with you and lust got y'all out here entrusting your body temples to the same nigga that set Tupac up! How you chose to live your life is to each his own, but take them rose colored glasses off g, and stop spreading these rudimentary'ahh notions about an act that is anything but...

In true dramatic fashion, I leave you with a melody lol mainly because this used to be my joint

This is real. And this is what i'm trying to tell my brothers & sisters but they are not hearing it. I'm a firm believer in not having sex without a committed relationship/situation ; honestly, it's just too risky.

But if people want to add stds/hiv to the list of things they dont mind killing them, then I'm force to educate and then toss them a *josie shrug*

Everything you said was the truth...
Sadly, Jesus himself could whisper this into people's ears, and they still wouldn't listen.

Don't watch me, w-w-watch my feet....
