Disclaimer: The intent of this post is not to put beauty in a box, nor to perpetuate the notion that women have to be 36-23-36 to be pretty. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and being overweight does not equal being unattractive by any means.
So now that I've cleared that up, this post was actually influenced by the following tweet:
I followed that up with the remark: The crazy thing about it all, hair is the leading cause of obesity amongst minority women. HAIR, g! (Being facetious, but you get the point.)
“I have no sympathy for girls that were skinny and got fat get in the gym, you pay for it”.
You see, I've heard girls say, “I don’t want to work out because I don’t wanna mess up my hair” which could essentially be reworded as, “Yeah I should be working out but at least my hair cute.” I think it is absurd that some women refuse to exercise because they would rather preserve them hair extensions, fresh relaxer, or whatever your cup of tea is. Y'all mean to tell me, when you weigh the pros and cons HAIR comes before HEALTH?
Somebody please pinch me, this can't be life.
Of course, my girlfriend Kellie says that I don’t understand because I’m not a woman, yadda yadda yadda. But I think she is forgetting that when she met me I wore braids and there was nothing worse than getting some fresh straight-backs…scalp sparkling all in the sun…hair smelling good…just to turn around and go to football practice and come out looking like this:
Anywho, Kelz went on to say that while hair is essential, there are many other important reasons why women don't work out. And I responded that whatever those reasons are, they pale in comparison to the infamous hair excuse. I think that hair is the MAIN reason some women don't work out (thus there is no valid reason) and Kelz argues that I'm overgeneralizing. So....
Vote. (If there are reasons not listed, feel free to comment.)
PLEASE prove me wrong. But until then, I'm judging all of you.
