Friday the 13th

Feb 13, 2009

I'm not a big fan of scary movies. A part of me likes to actually sleep at night, and the other part of me just doesn't like the fact that scary movies never really have any substance (i.e. Hostel, or Vacancy). I do, however, like the Friday 13th series because there is actually a plot and Jason is straight gutta with the way he gets at his victims....

For those of you who don't know the basic storyline goes as follows:

  • A child named Jason Vorhees drowns in lake nearby the campsite known as Camp Crystal Lake
  • Mrs. Voorhees, the cook at Camp Crystal Lake, seeks revenge for his death, for which she blames the camp counselors
  • Camp Crystal Lake closes due to double-homicide commited by Mrs. Vorhees
  • A group of teenagers re-open the abandoned camp site a year after the killings. One by one, the teens fall victim to a "mysterious killer" (who is actually Mrs. Vorhees striking again)
  • Alice, one of teenagers responsible for re-opening the camp ends up killing Mrs. Vorhees in a final confrontation
  • 5-years later, a new group of people attend counselor training at a facility located near Camp Crystal Lake
  • All but 1 die, but this time it is Jason himself (who survived the drowning) and he is exacting revenge for the death of his mother...and now he protects the campsite from any intruders
....the new film, which comes out TODAY, takes place at Camp Crystal Lake (of course) but with a modern-day storyline. I'm excited because it is produced by Michael Bay and Marcus Nispel, who are known for Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Hopefully it does not disappoint!
